Stables with tradition

Martin and Sandra Wood , together with their children Michaela and Tommy, moved to “Hill Top Farm” in Birstwith near Harrogate in 2000.

Then having purchased a little Coloured pony called William for their daughter Michaela to start competing at the local shows little did they realise that “Snaffi Bright Spark” ( William’s proper show name) would set them on the road that would lead to 8 Horse of the Year Show Showing titles.

William was the ideal first pony for Michaela and taught her so much – together they formed a great partnership. To her parents surprise Michaela and William went on to win their local county show,” The Great Yorkshire Show” but an injury just before the Horse of the Year Show prevented the pair from competing at the season’s finale. Although Michaela out grew William this great little pony did go on to eventually win at the Horse of the Year Show in 2011 at the grand age of 16 with his new jockey Alexandra Hollings before enjoying a well-earned retirement at Hill Top Farm.

By now Martin and Sandra had developed Hill Top Farm into a busy Equestrian Centre. There are a few private DIY liveries but the stables are mainly filled with Brood Mares, Foals, Youngsters, Coloureds, Hunters, Hacks, Welsh Cobs and a few Show Ponies making up a very strong showing team.

2015 promises to be a busy and exciting year with the Woods’ established champions competing alongside some of their novices horses and ponies. With a new “back room” team headed by Nigel Hollings the future looks very bright.
